Notice of Race (or Not)

Our first race of the season won't be on the water, but on the slopes at Gore Mountain!

Date

Saturday March 22, 2008. This is the Saturday of Easter weekend.

Eligibility

SLSC Members, friends, neighbors, etc. First time skiers/riders welcome, but if you are a first timer, a lesson is strongly recommended. Note the Discover Skiing/Riding package below for $55. This package is for first time skiers only and lift ticket is for surface lifts only.

Starting Time

Lifts open between 8:00-8:15. I recommend an early start but arrive no later than 9:00 if you want to race. Report to Shirley in &ldq;race headquarters&rdq; in the Main Lodge to pick up your tickets. Racing begins at 10:00 depending on availability of the race course. Earlier might work better. We should be done with racing in an hour and have the rest of the day to explore Gore.

Rules

I'm making these up as I go along but I will strive to factor in fairness assuming I have some decent runs. In ski racing, like sailing, you go around some &ldq;marks&rdq; and faster is better. There is no port-starboard in ski racing but handicapping is permitted. We'll use the Nastar course, which is on Green terrain and not difficult to negotiate. Two best runs (one from each course) will determine the winners.

The following prices apply assuming we qualify as a group: We only need 10 paid skiers or riders to quality so I'm optimistic these will apply. I'm hoping for more!

Reservations

I have to give the Gore Marketing Department our numbers 48 hours in advance. For these rates they want only one transaction so I need to know the numbers and types of tickets, rental packages and lessons. I'll buy the tickets and collect cash or checks from our skiers and riders on the day of the event. Racers will pay an additional $5 for two runs or $10 for unlimited runs. Please email ( ) or telephone (518 584-5552) your ticket order as soon as possible. I need to give an approximate count by Thursday, March 20^th.
