Multihull Class

Multihull sailing vessels have ancient and noble origins.  Catamarans and trimarans have been used by various cultures for many purposes. It is well known that Polynesian double-hulled canoes were highly efficient sailing vessels, used to sail throughout the South Pacific.

In the mid-20th century, the development of modern materials like fiberglass and advanced construction techniques facilitated the growth of multihull sailing.

Multihulls, particularly trimarans, became known for their ability to break world records in ocean crossings.

The prestigious America's Cup, traditionally raced in monohulls, saw a shift towards multihulls with the introduction of the AC72 catamarans in the 34th edition held in 2013.

The Olympic Games introduced multihull sailing events, such as the Tornado class and later the Nacra 17 class, featuring mixed-gender teams sailing catamarans.

We sail a wide variety of Multihull sailboats at SLSC, including the Hobie 16, Hobie 17, Hobie 18, Hobie Getaway, Hobie Wave, F16 Blades, and Weta trimarans.

High winds are much appreciated!
